SATURDAY, Thailand (AP) —A pharmaceutical company has struck a deal to sell a drug that treats erectile dysfunction and other conditions in its Southeast Asian headquarters.
The deal, which is set to be signed by the US-based firm, will give the company a controlling stake in the drug maker's Southeast Asian headquarters until May 2017.
Athletes who take the drug for erectile dysfunction or impotence will be the exclusive distributor and producer of the drug, the company said. The drug will be made in the United States by the company, which makes Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
The drug is marketed as a treatment for erectile dysfunction in both men and women. However, it is not approved for use in children.
Pfizer, which has global patent rights, has not disclosed how much of the drug is being sold. The drug is sold under the name Cialis in capsule form to treat erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
The deal will give the drug's manufacturer, Pfizer, a majority stake in the company, which has an international patent on the drug and a U. S. headquarters.
Pfizer also has rights to sell the drug in Japan.
Cialis has been approved in the U. S., Europe and other countries.
The drug is sold in tablet form to treat erectile dysfunction and BPH. The drug is sold in a capsule form in the form of an erectile dysfunction-enhancing pill.
The company is seeking to avoid other pharmaceutical firms from selling the drug, including Merck & Co.
Pfizer said it would take the drug's development and marketing time to complete the deal and would expect the deal to take effect in the second half of next year.
Pfizer is not the only pharmaceutical company to have been affected by the deal.

1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
